College Extracurricular Activities: Student Government

During the last one hundred years the main goal of every college was to provide students the necessary information of a particular sphere of activities and certain professional skills. But as the practice showed the only lectures and assignments writing are not enough for “whole individual” formation. Except the professional skills one should have social ones that are also important in every society. That is why colleges all over the world began to involve various extracurricular activities in their ordinary curriculum year in order to develop all-round intelligent students.

Impact on Students

The main aim of the established extracurricular activities is not for entertainment or making curriculum year more various and interesting. It provides psychological and social education, the ability to live and work in groups so the collaboration would be effective and productive not only for one person but for all the people involved in the activity. Numerous experiences prove that such activities have positive impact on the individual character development. Working in group students enlarge their life experience through the interaction with others. They learn how to use critical thinking in particular situations, how to resolve different problems, how to cope with different papers writing and arrange conflicts.

Student Government

One of the most popular extracurricular experience provided by a lot of colleges is student government. As a rule, in such institutions students are fully or partially involved in governance.  Their “official voice” is taken into account properly by university administration while taking important decisions. The participants of the college government often become members of other different committees.  The goal of such committees is to represent the thoughts and ideas of the other fellow students. The main function of student government is to search for the funds to other organizations, elaborate and integrate programs related to student interests and others.
